I’ve had this laptop for around 2 weeks now, and i haven’t really downloaded anything. I use a wireless internet connection from my mum’s laptop downstairs through a USB dongle, and my laptop is a Sony Vaio CR31. I don’t understand why it is taking so long to show a web page. Help, please?

If it’s taking long to load just web-pages and nothing else, then it is probably the speed of your internet, and your distance from the router. If your entire PC is running slow, then you probably have a program running in the background that is absorbing RAM.
most likely the wireless connection 1st update ur laptop fully (windows update) 2nd update all drivers especially those which have to do with your wireless connection
this should help
What Operating system is it running? Windows Vista? Do you have an anti-virus/ security program(s)? Does your mum have any of these problems?
does your mums laptop still run the web ok?? just checking if the problem is on your machine or in general, give the laptop a bit of a spring clean, defragment the drive and within internet explorer or whatever browser you use clear out temp files, cookies and history, if it still runs slow download spybot search and destroy it’s free to check for spyware, more on IE speeding up below
If it’s running so slow only in web surfing but works okay on anything else, then it has nothing to do w/the machine. Try borrowing somebody else’s computer and seeing whether it runs as slow on someone else’s network. Or go to a nearby hotspot and see if you can zoom on wi-fi.
You may have some spywre infecting your machine – what anti-spuyware software do you use and when did you last use/update it?
